We would like to introduce honorable speakers of the discussion on “EUROPEAN VALUES IN POLITICS”, that will take place on December, 7th, 2015.
The discussion will be a 3rd event of Bohdan Hawrylyshyn School on Policy-Making and Development of Civil Society established for young people interested in politics, policy-making and development of effective civil society. The School incorporates different formats of educational activities, including meetings with European politicians, MPs; debates, round-tables, simulations and case-studies.

Dr. Bohdan Hawrylyshyn, Chairman
Member of the Club of Rome, Word Academy of Art and Science, International Management Academy, Doctor of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Geneva, Honorary Doctor in 7 Universities of Canada and Ukraine, consultant to governments of various states and international companies, moderator and chairman of numerous international conferences and seminars in more than 90 countries. Founder of the International Management Institute (IMI-Kyiv Business School), International Centre for Policy Studies. He was adviser to the first President of Ukraine, four Chairman of Parliament and three Prime ministers. Acted as Chairman of Advisory Council to the Presidium of Ukrainian Parliament (Verhovna Rada).

| Mr. Urmas Paet, Guest Speaker
Member of the European Parliament, an Es tonian politician, member of the Estonian Reform Party. Was Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia from 2005 to 2014. Paet was born in Tallinn. He graduated from the University of Tartu in 1996 with a BA in Political Science and continued his graduate studies there, but without obtaining the degree. He had been active in journalism during his studies, and continued in that career until 1999, when he entered politics by joining the Reform Party and becoming professional advisor. He served as the Deputy Mayor of Nõmme (a district of Tallinn) from 1999 to 2003. In April 2003, when the Juhan Parts government took office, Paet became Estonian Minister of Culture. He remained in that position until April 2005, when the Parts government fell. In April 2005, when the Andrus Ansip cabinet took office, he became Foreign Minister.

Dr. Volodymyr Ogrysko, Speaker
Diplomat, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (2007 – 2009). Dr. Volodymyr Ogrysko began his political career in 1978 when he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an Attaché in the Press Department. Between 1992 and 1996, he was a Counsellor in the Embassies of Ukraine in the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Austria. In 1996-1999 he served as the Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, Kyiv, Ukraine. Then between 1999 – 2004, he was Ukrainian Ambassador to the Austrian Republic and Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna. From February 2005 to December 2007 – First Deputy Minister, till 2009 was Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

| Dr. Maksym Yakovlyev, Moderator
Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science, Nati onal University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”. Born in Donetsk. In 2005 graduated from Master Studies in Comparative Politics at “Kyiv-Mohyla University”, Kyiv, Ukraine. In 2010 received his PhD in Political Science. Was a Visiting Researcher at Comenius University of Bratislava (Slovakia), Friedrich-Schiller Universität Jena (Germany), and University of Oxford (UK), where he focused his work on social policy analysis. Currently comments on ongoing social and political issues for mass media in Ukraine, translates books. |
