Jack Palance (Volodymyr Palahniuk) –was an American actor who never keep away from its origin. He was awarded the “Oscar” in 1992. He was born in the US, his parents were immigrants from Lviv and Ternopil.
Jack stood apart from Russia. In 2004 he refused the title of People’s artist of the Russian Federation, putting the emphasis on that he has nothing common with Russia because he is Ukrainian.

Igor Sikorsky

Erwin Chargaff
An outstanding scholar Erwin Chargaff was born in 1905 in Chernivtsi in wealthy Jewish family. His father inherited a small German bank office. During the First World War Chargaff bank went bankrupt and then the family moved to Vienna.
In 1935, Erwin finally settled in the US, where he worked at Columbia University in New York (Professor, Head of Department of Biochemistry, from 1974 – professor of biochemistry in the laboratory cells). In 1940, an American citizen.
Chargaff’s rules used in determining the structure of DNA. He also proved that DNA has species specificity and rejected the hypothesis of the existence of many types of DNA.
Volodymyr Khavkin
Millions of people all over the world owe Vladimir Khavkin life. Native of Berdyansk invented vaccines against cholera and bubonic plague.. The bacteriologist lived in India – 22 years and saved the country from an epidemic. For 40 years, over 35 million people saved from a terrible disease.
